Presentation Abstract

FLEdge Scalable Energy Solutions: Practical Use Cases at Every Level of the Energy Hierarchy

The hierarchical structure of the FLEdge project and its capacity to address diverse energy management needs at multiple user levels is explored. By targeting energy optimization across various levels, apartment, building, district, neighborhood, and city, FLEdge ensures scalable and practical energy solutions tailored to the specific needs of each user group. At each level, specific use cases are presented to demonstrate the system’s flexibility. For example, at the apartment level, individual users benefit from smart heating management and peak load shifting, while at the building level, energy managers optimize heating systems and participate in demand-response programs. At the district level, district energy managers handle load balancing and improve resilience, and at the neighbourhood level, energy sharing and community-wide storage utilization play key roles. Finally, at the city level, city-wide energy operators manage demand response and excess renewable energy. The functional and non-functional requirements critical to FLEdge’s success at each level are highlighted.
